Why You Should Add HIIT Step to Your Workout Routine

What is HIIT Step?

HIIT step is a style of aerobic step exercise class that takes advantage of the high intensity benefit of HIIT training. It’s fast, it’s all-out, it’s intense. The workouts are generally pretty quick; although, during that short time you’re giving 100% effort into your workout.

During a HIIT step class you’ll use a box, bench, or step to step up and down, jump, lunge, and more. Generally, workouts are lower body-based since many of the movements are with your legs. However, there are many upper body and core exercises that can be performed on a step to create a full body workout program.

Prepare to get sweaty and burn loads of calories during one of these sessions! With the right variety of exercises and/or use of dumbbells, kettlebells, and more, you may also get in some strength training during your HIIT step class by completing exercises like pushups, plyometrics, and lunges.

What are the Benefits of HIIT Step?

With this incredible workout you can expect loads of benefits. The best thing is, these fun, fast-paced workouts can be done at home with minimal equipment and space!

If you’re interested in weight loss, or simply increasing your metabolism, HIIT step is a great option for burning lots of calories in a short amount of time. And thanks to HIIT step’s high intensity nature, these workouts are designed to keep you burning calories even after your workout is over - maximizing the effect of your workout.

Because HIIT step is designed to push your body to its limits, you can expect increased cardiovascular fitness. Many of the complex movements involved in a HIIT step workout will even challenge your strength - increasing lean, toned muscle mass in your entire body.

What do you need for a HIIT Step Workout?

To complete these workouts, you’ll need an Aerobic step. I’d recommend the NO. 049 Deluxe Aerobic Step. This step is the ideal size for any movements you may want to do, and easy to make quick adjustments to the levels. If you have a smaller space, the NO. 039 Aerobic Step is also a great option, it’s space-saving size makes it ideal for storage, and you’ll find that even with it’s small size you still have plenty of room for your workouts.

HIIT step workouts can always be modified to be completed without weights; in fact, many won’t even use weights at all, and simply incorporate bodyweight movements around your step. However, the more you get into HIIT step, the more you’ll want and need to take your workouts to that next level to keep progressing. If you’re ready to take that next step, a pair of dumbbells will do the trick! I recommend starting with the NO. 021-5-PAIR 5 lb. Neoprene dumbbell set to start.
